The ISO/TS 16949 is an ISO technical specification aimed at the further development of Quality Management Systems (QMS) that caters to continual improvement, defect prevention, and the reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain. In addition, the standard combines the AVSQ (Italian), EAQF (French) and VDA 6.1 (German) automotive requirement ISO/TS 16949, coupled with customer-specific requirements, defines the quality system requirements for use in the automotive supply chain.
The process approach is an integrated part of the ISO/TS 16949 methodology. Any activity or set of activities that uses resources to transform inputs to outputs can be considered as a process. For organizations to function properly, they must manage numerous interrelated and interacting processes. It is common to have the output of one process directly feed into the input of the next process. Process approach can be defined as the systematic identification and management of processes employed within organizations and particularly the interactions between such processes is referred to as the “process approach.”
ISO/TS 16949 satisfies the automotive mandates of the IATF members on a global basis and complemented by the fulfillment of customer-specific requirements. Organizations that have been accredited to ISO/TS 16949 promote the adoption of the process approach, and thus have an opportunity to enhance customer satisfaction through effectiveness of the quality management system. By placing a larger emphasis on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the process to achieve the measurable objectives, an organization provides ongoing control over the individual processes and on the linkage between processes.
