Description

This one-day course develops the participants' understanding of the MSA Reference Manual through group activities and individual participation. In general, attendees will gain an understanding of the MSA Reference Manual and its impact on quality systems. Participants leave with an understanding of the elements of MSA and the relationship of MSA to a quality management system. Participants also gain insight into organizational applications, categories of measurement system variation, and Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility. MSA has direct application to ISO/TS 16949:2002.

Length: 1 day
Prerequisites: Knowledge of automotive requirements recommended
CEUs: 0.75

Benefits
  • Learn to go to the heart of the problem — or the success — by collecting and interpreting data.
  • Understand the purpose of measurement systems and learn how to identify the properties and characteristics of effective measurement systems and the categories of Measurement Error.
  • Learn concise, efficient methods for Measurement System Analysis, planning and preparing a Measurement System Study and understanding process variation and its impacts.
  • Optimize understanding and retention with the Plexus Learning Model

  • - Multiple learning channels through lecture, coaching, group activities, innovative learning exercises and case studies.
    - Hands-on insights. Lecturing is minimized so learning is maximized.
    - Learn by doing. Connect the lessons learned to your real world by using your current circumstances as examples for activities.
Highlights
  • Through group activities and coaching, definitions are discussed and clarified.
  • "Reflect and connect" activities reinforce the use of measurement data as input for informed decision making, which in turn impacts the continual improvement process.
  • Produce a cause and effect diagram identifying "causes" that "affect" variation in measurement.
  • Perform basic measurement skills using actual measurement instruments. This hands-on activity leads to a discussion of bias, linearity, stability, repeatability, and reproducibility.
  • Using the data you obtain, groups are coached through a measurement system study to include range and attribute methods.
  • Move from theory to application by completing a Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility Report, which includes interpreting the Measurement System Analysis results using graphical analysis.
